Founded in 2003 by Venerable Thubten Chodron, endorsed by His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Sravasti Abbey, a Buddhist monastery of nuns and (a) monk(s), is a "flourishing monastic community where learning and practicing Buddha’s ancient teachings cultivate peace in the hearts of residents, visitors, and the world."
Located outside of Newport, Washington, Sravasti Abbey is within reach of Oregonians and the Eugene-Springfield area! Friends of Sravasti Abbey-Eugene (FOSA-Eugene) was established to help support the Abbey, its residents, and its vision by connecting Eugene-Springfield area locals to the Abbey through learning, thinking, debating, meditating and an annual trip to the Abbey.
While Abbess Venerable Chodron supports non-sectarian Mahayana Buddhism and advises students to study a broad range of Buddhist teachings, Friends of Sravasti Abbey-Eugene creates a presence in the Eugene-Springfield area for students interested in learning more about the Gelugpa school of Tibetan Buddhism and its founder, Lama Tsongkhapa (Je Rinpoche).
