"All Abbey programs are offered freely. In turn, the community lives solely by offerings."
Sravasti Abbey website
The Sravasti Abbey community includes over a dozen nuns, one monk, plus trainees and visitors who learn, practice, and live the Buddha’s teachings together. Monastics rely on the kindness of others to provide the four requisites of food, clothing, shelter, and medicine. In return for this support, monastics commit to studying, practicing, and teaching the Dharma to the lay community. The Buddha himself established this interdependent relationship and everyone benefits. As much as we need the Dharma and "Peace in a Chaotic World", Sravasti Abbey needs our generous support. As your relationship to the Abbey strengthens, you will find immense joy in giving—
your practice, your service, your food offerings, your financial support—
to the Abbey. Read below to learn how to support Sravasti Abbey from the Eugene-Springfield area!
"Dana is a Sanskrit and Pali word that means “generosity” or “giving.” It refers specifically to taking delight in giving—that is, getting in touch with the natural generosity and wish to share inside of us. The mind of generosity is a joyful mind; it does not suffer from regret or a feeling of poverty. Rather, the act of giving itself is pleasurable and seeing others using our offering is an extra bonus."
